While the majority of this book consists of relevant texts from the Early Church era (in translation), a lengthy introduction by the editor serves to put the texts in context. Covering the era from the Apostles to Ambrose, this volume contains all of the major works (excerpted or in full) needed to establish a basic understanding of the Early Church's conception of government.
