From the dustjacket:
This book is a description of what the church ought to be, an attempt to deal with the concrete issues of what it really means to be a Christian community, the body of Christ. Although there is no one correct form that the church must take, it does need to be a community. I have little hope for any significant and sustained renewal of the church today without the development of Christian community.
Much has been written about the believers’ church and intentional communities by sociologists, church historians, and theologians. This book proclaims this vision as I have experienced it. Thus in a sense it is a manifesto.
To some, what is written here may sound idealistic. That has been a common criticism of radical Christianity. For me it is a living reality that I have seen, touched, and tasted. God really does give people the strength to live out the new life that is offered to us. Although still very human and imperfect, genuine community is possible for all who will open their lives totally to God’s love.
Art Gish lives in Athens, Ohio and spends his winters working with the Christian Peacemaker Teams among the Israelis and Palestinians in Hebron.
